I doubt anyone actually relies on code I’ve written in the past few years, but if you do, you may notice that all of my repos (except the one that represents this site) have gone private. I haven’t sold them or relicensed them or anything, I just think it’s time to start fresh. A lot of the software that I’ve written recently was geared towards my homelab, and before that it was basically just weather, ATProtocol, and rockets. I am still interested in most of those things, but a lot of the software I was writing just never came to fruition like other peoples’ projects have, and I urge you to check them out. However, I realized that over the past few years I’ve been building stuff that even I found useless. The final straw was a serverless function runner that I eventually stopped using. It was a pain to debug, incredibly difficult to setup, and made me commit to maintenance that I just didn’t want to do. It made me realize that, after all this time, I never really needed any of it.
Now, you may say “but at least you learned something” or “at least it was useful at the time”, which I agree. I had a lot of fun writing those projects, and I even got a job in software engineering (somewhat) because of them. But ultimately I want to write software that I’m proud of, and that aligns with my values. I’ve gotten really interested in permacomputing and I want to take my personal projects in that direction. That may mean you won’t see a software project from me for a long time, but at least it’ll be one that I’m proud of and that makes the world a better place.
Until then, if you need access to a project I’ve made, send me an email and I’ll reply with a tarball of the source code.
